Maggi nothing can beat a bowl of spicy noodles. I wouldn’t exactly call it ‘cooking’ but I can make noodles.

Maggi is the popular noodle variant available in India, that is a favourite for most middle-class households. Every other noodle brand was called as ‘Maggi’ because it is a household name. But did you know that the name is derived from a man?
A Swiss entrepreneur named Julius Michael Johaness Maggi, who established this food production line in the 1800s. At that time, the Swiss Milling industry was struggling. The workers were not getting the required nutritional value. Hence, he collaborated with Fridolin Schuler, a renowned physician to device packaged food that would be affordable and readily available to these mill workers, and would also provide them with adequate nutrients.
Soon in 1884, their production failed. At that point, Company resorted to making a range of readily edible soups and tons of food flavours. Once it came under the purview of the Swiss Government, they funded his project to aid the demographic of working women and Maggie was a great success in the market!
The company originated in Switzerland in 1884, when Julius Maggi took over his father’s mill. He quickly became a pioneer of industrial food production, aiming to improve the nutritional intake of worker families. This was the first to bring protein-rich legume meals to the market, and followed up with a ready-made soup based on legume meals in 1886. After that Julius introduced bouillon concentrates, first in capsules, then in cubes. In 1897, Julius Maggi founded the company Maggi GmbH in Singen, Germany.
It was then in 1947, the same year when India acquired Independence, that the company ‘Nestle’ acquired Maggi. Today, all of Maggi’s products are sold under it, with noodles, soups, sauces and more. It’s wonderful to see how something that was invented for a crisis, is now a global favourite in 2 centuries already!
